As an industrial designer and serial entrepreneur, I’ve navigated the heart of the hardware startup ecosystem. Whether prototyping alongside French Tech startups in FabLabs, optimizing the ergonomics of cutting-edge connected devices, leading development on patented security devices, or working on material innovation for luxury goods… I’ve seen firsthand which projects take off, and which ones collapse under the weight of their own certainties.

I’m afraid someone will steal my idea if I test it too early. How do I protect my concept?

This is hardware founders’ #1 fear. In reality, a hidden idea is often a dead idea. Between us, we obviously sign a strict non-disclosure agreement (NDA). For public tests, we offer our clients a timestamping service and use design techniques (teasers, usage visuals) that validate customer desire without ever revealing your technological or industrial “secret sauce.” The goal is to test the value proposition, not publish your technical plans.

I’m a solo founder (without a technical team). Is that a problem?

No. Building a hardware startup alone is a massive challenge, and you need a team. That’s where SlapBack; comes in. Beyond designing your product, we act as your R&D conductor. If your project requires highly specialized skills (electronic engineering, complex mechanics), we mobilize and coordinate our network of ecosystem designers and engineers to deliver you a flawless product.

I only have a sketch or an idea in mind — is it too early to reach out to you?

Quite the opposite — it’s exactly the right time! The biggest trap is waiting until you have a perfect technical prototype before confronting the market. From the idea stage onward, I can design realistic 3D renders or proof-of-concept mockups (the famous “looks-like” prototype) to test your future customers’ appetite. The less engineering work you’ve done, the easier and cheaper it will be to pivot based on feedback.
